Who We Are

Infrastructure Nerds is an IT consulting company based out of Oakland, California, USA.

We were founded by Barry King in 2023, after working in IT for 25 years as a Linux Administrator, Network Administrator, and Technical Manager.

We serve clients in the San Francisco Bay Area, and beyond.

What We Do

Infrastructure Nerds provides managed IT solutions and consulting with a focus on transparency, infrastructure as code, and open source.

We develop pocketprotector, an Infrastructure as Code solution based on the Puppet programming language. This DevOps approach provides a transparency and compliance layer for our Linux-based solutions.

Our focus is on Linux first and networking second, though we also have familiarity with Windows and Apple-based solutions. We've used most commercial network vendors and both open source and commercial firewall vendors. On the storage side, we build ZFS and gluster systems, and also work with commercial storage appliances.
